TiVo to second TV
 

Hello everyone i'm hoping you can help me.

I've not long upgraded my Virgin services and also got a TiVo box which i love dearly lol.
Only problem is, before tivo i just had a regular box which i had a coaxial wire in which feeded my TV in my bedroom, and then upon getting my tivo i found out there is no such thing so i began searching everywhere for alternitaves.
I found these wireless digital TV senders and purchased 1 but the Picture and osund quality is really bad so I am going to be returning it today.

What i was wondering is, is there a way to do this wired. I know I could get multiroom but it doesnt seem the best option for me at the moment with not being able to watch my recorded programs on the other tv. And October seems to far away to wait lol.

A really long SCART cable? Or a Slingbox & SlingCatcher if you have £400 to spare.

If you could have an aerial cable sent to your room you could buy an RF sender, and used an AV modulator to transfer the TiVo picture via scart into the AV modulator, out comes an aerial into the RF sender, and the Aerial from the RF sender you wire into the other room and plug into the TV. You set the channel number on the AV modulator.

They can be bought on Amazon very cheaply, but the wiring may be difficult.

Could i use has Jameseh said a really long scart cable? because thta would pretty much be the answer i wa slooking for

You could use a really long scart cable.

Or you could buy a HDMI splitter and run two HDMI cables from the TiVo box.

One to your main TV and another to the one in the other room.

HDMI cables tend to be a bit thinner and would probably be easier to hide under carpets etc... as I assume it needs to run along to the other room.

Plus you would get a better picture quality.

Trouble is how long do you need the cable. Isn't going to be cheap.

It'd probably be easier to have a v box in the other room for £6.50 a month and that way u can change channel etc... in extra room.

If you already have a co-ax cable from where your Tivo is, to where the second TV is then the easiest way of doing it is with.......

The Powermid is easier to set up than the TV LinkPlus, but the LinkPlus benefits form the fact that the whole system is wired and does not rely on wireless communications (which can vary in reliability from house to house) in any way.

I actually have 2 Tivo boxes, and connect 1 to a remote TV with the Powermind, and the second Tivo to 2 further remote TV's using the LinkPlus, so can confirm that both methods definitly work.

One thing to consider, if you have, or are going to have more than 1 Tiivo Box that you want to connect to a second TV, you will have to use the TVLink for AT LEAST one of the set ups, as you can not have two seperate / independant Powmids within range of each other.

Edit - If you are only interested in getting the picture to a second TV, you only need the 1st bit of kit. The second piece of equipment is to allow you to change chanel on the Tivo box from a remote control at the second TV - sorry if that wasnt obvious form the above

After reading a recommendation from BenMcr a while ago, I purchased a HDMI 1:2 splitter, a 5m HDMI lead and the Powermid remote extender. Total came to around £50, but that's around 8 months of 2nd box charges so after that I'll be saving.

It works just fine with my V+, and I'm sure will work equally well when (if) my TiVo arrives.

Of course this is all assuming you have HDMI on your TV.

Yes that's always a worry, but I did a fair bit of reading prior to ordering this, and I *think* I'll be OK as I only ever have one display at a time on; time will tell though.

I believe that I may be offered a free relocation of my V+ box, so that will remove the need for the splitter. In that event I will plug it into my DVD player (which also works).

If I don't get a free relocation, and the splitter doesn't work, I'll just manually switch the HDMI lead (I never watch both TVs at the same time anyway).

I then use an IR repeater hooked upto the coaxial cable and a magic eye in the other room to change channel!

Works perfect & cost very little to set up as only using a cheap 10m HDMI cable bought from ebay for the bedroom tv. Its good as well because I can access all functions of the lounge tv & recordings.

Further to this (and for anyone else considering this option).

I had my TiVo installed today and the HDMI Splitter and Remote extender works just fine. This is with the 15.2 RC2 firmware

Edit: I used the Cablesson HDMI splitter, which is a rebadged version of the Neet box mentioned above.

Just adding my experiences. Like the OP, I bought a wireless sender and found it awful. I had been distributing TV signals from an old TiVo series 1 to my kitchen through an RF amplifier and coax, which worked really well. Switched to Samsung V+ without any coax output, so I bought an RF modulator, which worked fine. Switched to Virgin TiVo (wasn't offered free relocation of V+ unfortunately) and was going to use the modulator, when I realised I had my Panasonic DVD Recorder in the system, and it has a built-in RF modulator, so I have TiVo by HDMI to main TV, TiVo scart to DVDR, DVDR RF out coax to kitchen, allows watching of TiVo or DVDR in kitchen. I haven't bothered with any remote control options.

I got a modulator from Maplins. Works perfectly with no complaints regarding picture quality.
