It's absolutely pathetic that we need to provide via the tax payer ,money to teach young mums how to look after their children .It used to be that the parents and grandparents took care of that but since a lot of the parents are just as bad i suppose something has to done by the state .It will be interesting to see who is given the job of teaching these kids how to be a parent ,progressive social workers with no children or will they ask parents with plenty of experience to take the reigns

Parentcraft lessons USED to be taught in schools(to girls of course as it was pre sex equality days). However with the enlarged timetable and emphasis on technical education parentcraft vanished as did home economics.Personally I would like to see it return to the timetable if only as part of the Personal and Social Development lessons and as an addon to sex education.

I don't see what is wrong for the tax payer to pay for people to learn to be parents. We always used to, and who knows, if it works, it may save a lot of money in Policing costs later.

Well i for one want to see it done before the child leaves school and not when the child has had the baby ,made a right hash of things and needs the intervention of a social worker or other such person to try to put things right ,a case of close the door before the horse gets out

Just think. the majority of kids being born today are chavs kids. so these parents that are having to be taught how to be a parent are chavs.

So I take It that my friend who is a young mother at 21 and has not got a clue is a whore?????
Its a shame her husband works all hours god sends and cant be there 24/7
Some people need to grow up and realise that children are just that and any help to new mums will help the child :)

You have to remember that "the big society" is just one of those harebrained schemes that politicians invent because they seem to think it will get them a few populists votes.:(

I think this is a good idea, as most people learn about raising their kid from their parents.

But no all are lucky, plus I still reckon that even the best parents would learn something if they did these classes.
