Virgin Media Hub

Hi,

I have just been upgraded to a new virgin media hub (the basic version) and I can't connect to the internet through it. I have wired conection and i can see my wireless network but the cinnection times out before its even connected (I think).

I have an Atheros inbuilt driver/adapter. The virgin media phoneline said I needed a new driver as this is out of date and incompatible. The only way they could help is if i subscribe to their support service (for £10 month, min term 6 months!).

Could anyone tell me what driver I need to use my new wireless? And where I can download the driver from?
I have to admit i am totally lost. I have tried downloading new driver through device manager but it says I have an uptodate driver. (I have vista home operating system and Acer Aspire laptop).

Thank you, in advance, to anyone who can help

Rachel

Re: Virgin Media Hub

windows update > OPTIONAL update

download and run this on your wireless capible device to check available channels you can use without interference. look for channels in use, then set your SH to run usiing a channel thats not in use.

Thanks. I'm not sure it is just interference. Do you need an 'N' wireless driver for the hub? WIll it work at all with Atheros 5007EG?

Again, many thanks

Just checked and it is on a totally differet amplitude to all others in the area, nothing even close......

Re: Virgin Media Hub

inSSIDer is an additional step to aid wireless activity. Furthermore as you've got a B/G adapter you'll need to lower the rate/mode on the SH from 300 to 145 or 54 depending on what it suits. You don't need a to date N adapter/wireless chip although it will help you considerably if your a heavy user via wireless devices. If your on 30Mb then consider buying a USB wireless adapter, if your on 50Mb or 100Mb then you should of got a VM supplied adapter with your install pack.

The driver needs updating first... http://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-drivers.php

Don't use the auto function on the SH, set the channel manually.

Changed the channels to various different. It connected for a few seconds on one and then times out again....

have you updated the drivers?

http://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-drivers.php

look for yours in the list and then double check OS/Bit matches your system. if you having difficulties then state which OS you have including bit.

Start > Right Click Computer > Properties, under system

Thanks,

I have 32 bit Vista OS.

I have tried the download but it is coming though as a .zip and won't open. It is producing error messages. Saving results in a message saying file empty.
I'm clearly doing something wrong but its beyond me to work out what

my atheros is AR5007EG

Try temporarily deactivating your AV while you try to download and install the new driver.
