13 Years ago Today the World Lost Matthew Shepard
 

Matthew Wayne Shepard (December 1, 1976 – October 12, 1998) was a student at the University of Wyoming who was tortured and murdered near Laramie, Wyoming, in October 1998. He was attacked on the night of October 6–7, and died at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado, on October 12 from severe head injuries. During the trial, witnesses stated that Shepard was targeted because of his sexual orientation. Shepard's murder brought national and international attention to the contention of hate crime legislation at the state and federal level.

I reciently watched the interview his mum gave and i cried like a baby, especially the part when he was found the only part of his face that wasnt covered with blood was where he cried and his tears washed it away.

There really isn't much to say to that. One of many horrific crimes you eventually have to push to the back of your head because it's too difficult to process the pain and sadness involved for him and his family.

People can commit such evil acts due to hatred and ignorance. I would say that homosexuality is more accepted now than it was then, so there is some progress. There are however still people who can't handle difference and think they somehow have a right to tell others how to live their lives.

The Bit which im still picturing in my head is what his mum said.

When he was found he was covered in blood and the only part of his face which wasnt covered in blood was where he had been crying and it came to light he had begged them to stop hitting him and hurting him.

He was tied to a post and repeatedly hit with the but of a pistol and was left for dead.
