Slight puzzle
Just bought a new laptop. Its an OK machine, not great. A core i7 based Acer.
One thing really bugs me, the END and PGDOWN keys on the Acer are swapped around from how they are on the desktop. That is... Acer: [PgDown][End] Desktop [End][PgDown] As you can imagine this leads to me often pressing PgDown when I meant to press End, or vice-versa. Now, I know theres a tool provided by Microsoft for editing keyboard layouts, and I have downloaded it, I was thinking to make a custom layout for the Acer with the keys remapped into the "proper" positions. Unfortunatly, the tool is no longer supported by Microsoft, apparently, and while it is still available and downloadable, under Windows 7 (and Vista), all it does is open a blank window. No matter what you try. Does anyone know how I can remap those two keys, or a way to get the tool working? Also the PgUp and HOME keys are swapped around, and a couple of others. Its seriously annoying when you're a touchtyper used to one particular layout. |
Re: Slight puzzle
I think you might be able to map the keys to different values (character map)

Re: Slight puzzle
In a previous job I had, customers just swapped the keytops round, then complained they didn't work properly.

Re: Slight puzzle
Had that request a few times... On older keyboards (with the individual microswitches) you could actually swap round the switches or the wires (with a soldering iron)

Re: Slight puzzle
Ours could be changed programmatically (by our programmers), but the customers of course wanted it for nowt.
