New TV but no VM V+HD

Just bought myself a new Sony Bravia 32" TV today. Got a problem though when it comes to watching my V+ on it. Now my old TV didn't have an HDMI socket but a DVI. So bought a HDMI lead for the old one with a DVI converter which worked fine. The new telly just has the HDMI sockets so no need for the adapter. Plugged the HDMI lead in to the back and the picture just comes on with interference, goes off in a couple of seconds, goes green with more interference, then goes black. Then repeats the cycle. . My V+ settings are for 1080 HiDef HDMI already so thought it should work. Rang VM up and they mentioned to change the MPEG setting on the TV (of which I can't find one). So now I'm at a loss as to what to do.

Please help, I've got no TV apart from playing on the Wii which works a treat.

Also set the MPEG Noise Reduction to High (no On setting like VM asked) and that hasn't worked (didn't think it would). Tried every setting aswell.

On your TV remote have you made sure as you have selected HDMI 1 or whichever number it's connected to , usually a button input selection or source.

Done, still no joy. I think its the HDMI cable itself.

Make sure cable is still plugged in properly at the V+ end. You may have moved it when installing the new TV.

Other than that try a different cable, reversing the cable, or trying different sockets on the TV.

Dont really want to buy a new HDMI for £20 and then not be able to get a refund on it if it isn't that. VM said to call back if there's still no success. Ive now got the TV on via the DVD player using the scart leads so at least I've got that back

Get a cheap hdmi off amazon or eBay should be about £2 and try that sounds like a faulty hdmi cable or port. How many hdmi ports has tv got?

Go to Poundland or a supermarket for a HDMI there is really no need at all to spend £20 on a cable!

Make sure it isn't the V+ Box itself, I had a similar problem with my early 2006 Telewest silver TVDrive model, got it replaced with another SA box, and all was fine.

However on mine the HDMI didn't show anything at all, so maybe it's not the same problem - but I'd kick myself if it was the problem and I hadn't posted this sooner before you'd gone through the expense of several HDMI cables!

Have you got a blu ray player, ps3 anything with a hdmi socket so you can check the hdmi sockets and cable?

Just to let you all know, I've sorted it now. All it was, was the HDMI cable. Bought one at Tesco's for £4.50 and it works like it used to. Not sure how it does, but it does. Thanks for everyone's assistance!

The interesting thing from my point of view is how a HDMI lead suddenly does not work on a new TV, strange:confused:

I'd guess either the cable got damaged during the swap, or it was a bad connection. Perhaps the pins had corroded.
