Tivo 500GB video output issue

I've been using the new Tivo 500GB for less than 24 hours and have noticed an issue with the video output. It would appear that after putting my equipment into standing the video output reverts back to 720P from 1080i. I thought I was doing something wrong and not saving my settings I've selected but this morning I've tested the theory and it's very odd.

I have insured that only 1080i is ticked, leaving all other option blank to no avail.

I never had this problem with the Samsung V+ box that was in use before and if I'm honest the picture quality was also far better from that too.

I don't want to have to call tech support and speak to some one out of the UK that firstly doesn't have a clue and secondly doesn't speak in English very well.

I have the following equipment in my setup...

Samsung PS42C450
Onkyo HT R380 - AV receiver
TiVo 500GB

All the above is connected via HDMI to the AV reciever.

Has anyone else noticed this and could help me at all?

I believe that the TiVo scans your Tv and sets itself to the best resolution as your Tv is 720p this will be why the setting resets from 1080i.

Maybe its something to do with the AV amp intercepting the signal?

Re: Tivo 500GB video output issue

I had noticed that when I use the auto detect mode it reverts to 720P. The reciever is HDMI 1.4 spec which is strange. So it looks like I'm stuck with this and should report it to VM as an override would be better which saves preferred setting. Another odd thing is that I also own a PS3 which auto detects via HDMI and detects 1080P. I guess my HDTV re-scaled the picture.

So it seems to be a problem I've now inherited after using an AV receiver and a TiVo as the following link suggests after googling......

http://forums.tivo.com/pe/action/for...ostID=10440516

But there is a work around. To hook the TiVo directly to the HDTV and use an optical connection from the TiVo to the AV receiver.

It does revert back to 1080i after going to the settings each time which isn't on really as my old V+ box didn't do this. I tested the above work around tonight and it work a treat and have reported the issue to the TiVo team on 0800 052 2184.

I thought that was documented bug - something to do with connecting to audio equipment

I expect it's on the list of fixes

I'm slightly disappointed but glad I have a picture at all. Just a pain in the back side after using a working Samsung V+ box. Where is this a documented fault?

I cant say where it's documented - I can only say I read these forums loads and I've read about this issue dozens of times

Maybe you should post it on VM feedback forum
