pings have went bad

I am a FPS gamer and good ping times are the main priority for me with my internet connection. Last week or so my pings have trippled, here are some trace routes which display this:

I've posted this on the community forms here. Since calling up the helpline didn't do a great deal of help, other than to inform me to post on the community forms, and that pings are of low priority to Virgin Media, I was wondering if anyone here would know I have any options on where I can direct my issues too.

I honestly don't think its a problem with my local connection, but if anyone wants any information just ask. :)

Pings low priority? So much for being "the best network for gaming"

Most of the time I've spent on the phone I've been told that 50ms to London is a perfectly normal and acceptable ping for online gaming on their network. I whole-heartily disagree, but the people I've spoken to were having none of it and quite frankly made it known they didn't care and that it wasn't considered important.

Roll on FTTC.

Whether they admit it or not (and first line offshore support are notoriously hard to get to do anything useful) there is a genuine problem with VM's systems in Edinburgh right now - see the above thread.

50ms is not perfectly normal, and hasn't been since the days of 512k DSL. Even my mobile phone can do that nowadays.

More typical for this area is ~20ms. It's a fault, and hopefully it'll get fixed eventually.

The highest pings do appear to be outside the VM core, but still its not good.
