Has TiVo changed the way you watch TV?
I had a V+Box for years, but with the advent of HD TV I was fed up with the constant running out of space. Not only that but the interface was clunky. I have to say since I have had TiVO it has been awesome. I now just record everything I see and watch it at leisure. No more worrying about space and the wishlists and suggestions are great!
How about you guys? |
Re: Has TiVo changed the way you watch TV?
Sort of, but not in the way you have. I still watch a lot of live TV (hence why I can't wait for reminders to return), but I also record a lot more programmes for those times when there's nothing I want to watch as there's plenty of space now. Suggestions have been useful occasionally now that my TiVo has learned my viewing habits as it tends to record programmes that I've forgotten to watch.

I tend to agree with Lew on the many points he has made in his post in that l still watch quite a lot of live TV and l cannot wait for reminders to be added in the coming months.

Re: Has TiVo changed the way you watch TV?
I pretty much never watch live tv any more, but its been like that since I got my V+ when it was available in my area. The difference Tivo has made to me though is I very rarely use catch up or tv on demand now because I record everything and also the amount of programmes I never watched that I've had as suggestions I'm never without anything to watch. Its getting to a point now that I am finding it hard to get time to watch it all, my 1TB box is now at 61%. That doesn't include also the programmes that I watch via the youtube app. Tivo has definitely changed my viewing habits.

Similarly I now look at the suggestions if there's nothing else on live. Also record more, even if I am planning to watch it live, just in case I miss it

Re: Has TiVo changed the way you watch TV?
When I got TiVo for the first four days I had no suggestions based on my key likes so I actively encouraged my wife to thumbs up programmes that she/we like
Unfortunately this has resulted in my TiVo adventure consisting mainly of deleting recorded suggestions, thumbs from programmes and my attention being drawn to three red lights when watching live tv wondering what's recording now. Just love it, conversations in my house used to be dead in the evening but now the focal point is the TiVo box |
Re: Has TiVo changed the way you watch TV?
I find that suggestions are getting very good now and they pick up quite a few programmes of interest. Most of what we watch is pre-recorded, means we are in control of what and when we watch not the TV schedule.
I dont see the point of reminders. You have to be watching the TV to receive the reminder :) |

But at least if they are there you have the option not to use them, just as i wish to have the option to use them.;) |
Re: Has TiVo changed the way you watch TV?
I'll be able to comment very shortly, once the engineer turns up this AM to fit mine!!
I personally don't use reminders, but I do feel for people who did use them. We all use equipment differently, I for one took a while to get used to the V+ box remembering where you had got to in the EPG as after having Sky it use to forget. I've now gotta get used to the other way again by the sounds of it! All in all I'd say the pros for TiVo are going to outweigh the cons for my personal use, maybe not for others but for me it'll be worthwhile. |

Re: Has TiVo changed the way you watch TV?
Don't watch live TV at all now. As well as everything mentioned above I've started watching 100x more televised films. Before I could only watch pictures shown on the BBC as Francis Ford Coppala never intended the Go Compare guy to pop up 15 minutes into 'The Godfather' - with the super fast forward, TiVo wishlists and extensive EPG I've caught up with loads of classic films I've been meaning to watch for years.
Also, I like how if I start on Sky Sports News, for example, but watch a recorded programme I can rewind the previous 90 mins without recording it thus missing out on all the cricket pish and just watch the fitba news. The fact that it also does that when you first turn on the box is another doozie of a function. |
