Router and Switch question

Hi,

I sometimes need a 5th ethernet socket, but my router only has 4 which I think is standard, anyway, if I was to get a switch and plug that into my router.

Could I then plug into the switch and it would all work?

It's how I have it... 4 switches off each outlet (not all used at the same time though).

And if you get a gigabit switch you can get a faster network between home computers.

Only those connected to the switch though, the others would be limited by the speed of the router ;)
