Upgrading to 50MB service, new router required?

On Tuesday we're being upgraded from the 20MB service to the 50MB. I'm wired into the router and usually get around 20MB, but my son in his bedroom, connected wirelessly, only gets around 8MB.

I was wondering, is our Linksys WRT54G router a bottleneck or are his speeds likely to increase when we get the 50MB service installed? We're just wondering if we need to buy another router and a wireless card for his PC, and if so, what is recommended.

Advice appreciated :)

You are going to be lumbered with a superhub which is a combined docsis3 modem/N wireless router. If you are lucky it might work OK for you, if not then, welcome to the club.

See how your network performs using the superhub before acquiring anymore hardware.

Oh dear that doesn't sound good! Ok, I'll wait and see how it goes. Cheers
