Virgin ADSL router question

Hi all. I hope this isn't too stupid a question, but can I buy a bog standard ADSL modem, spoof the NIC from the original Virgin ADSL modem and configure it to work on the Virgin Network? I have been googleing and googleing to try to find this out to no avail.

Re: Virgin ADSL router question

I don;t believe that the ADSL service has the modem to account pairing like their cable service. Mainly due to each line being activated and not the modem. So in essence you should be able to use any modem that is compatible with the speed.

I would though wait for a staff member or someone else to confirm.

ADSL isn't like cable. You can use a different modem if you want to.

Indeed, I use a Belkin N150 on my adsl connection.

I'm on my third modem with Virgin National ADSL, and only the first one was theirs. Take your pick. :D

Re: Virgin ADSL router question

I brought a Billion BiPAC 7800N. The router I got from Virgin was D-link 2640R and it had hardly any range at all, and was kicking me off every couple of hours. So far the Billion 7800N is doing a resonable job, and has a far better range. Fingers crossed!
