RAM causes black screen
Hi all
I have a toshiba Equium a100 with 2gb of ram installed, working just fine. Did a crucial system scan and it advised I could fit another 2GB so i bought it The new stick arrived from crucial today and I fitted it. When I turned the laptop back on I just got a blank black screen :0( Any ideas?? Thanks |
Re: RAM causes black screen
Have you tried the new RAM on its own? Does That work? The new stick could be faulty.

Re: RAM causes black screen
You need to remove the new stick and see if boots ok, then try the old stick in the other slot to make sure that works, then try the new stick only in each slot to see if its working ok or faulty.

Re: RAM causes black screen
Thanks
I've done that and on their own each stick works fine, it's just when you install both the black screen appears ?? |
Re: RAM causes black screen
Do you get the black screen right away or after the post?
|
Re: RAM causes black screen
Right away, it's just a black screen, post screen does not show

Re: RAM causes black screen
Which A100 is it. Is there a number on the unit such as A100-027?
Some of them had a RAM limit at 2Mb. |

Re: RAM causes black screen
Crucial do have a compatibility guarantee so it might be worth contacting them to see if they have any tips. As an aside, a BIOS reset/upgrade may be in order.

Hi It's an A100-027 when I ran the crucial system scanner it said I could have 4GB Unfortunately the BIOS does not let me adjust much, just a few settings Thanks for the replies, keep them coming .. |

Yep, I probably do.. I blame the heatwave. :dozey: However: http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.c...DUCT_ID=125290 Max expandability 2 Gb. but what does that really mean? |
Re: RAM causes black screen
Ive updated the BIOS, still no difference, looks like I not going to be able to go higher than 2GB :(
