Good, hopefully that'll happen to the others that have been convicted

I'm sure i remember reading quite some time ago, comments by members of VM staff on this site, claiming Virgin Media had made significant changes to the way their equipment worked, so that these kind of people would in future be incapable of selling functioning set top boxes..

So what went wrong?

Nothing went wrong. The person the article is talking about was caught in April 2008, before the changes started

Apparently there are a few places these boxes are still active.

Is it worth getting slapped with a massive fine and possibly prison when Virgins pricing for TV is very reasonable.

Basic TV starts at just £6.50

L TV with 100+ channels goes for £18.50

XL goes for £24.50

The original hack is now impossible due to the card swap.

All areas of the UK covered by VM have been upgraded to the new system.

That's great news. I'm sure under the Proceeds of Crime Act assets belonging to the guilty party can and will be seized to pay the fine. I hope he's a home owner, Virgin should see their cash soon.

It seems to have taken them some time to start catching people it appears. They are getting there though.

Not any hacked boxes around now, area near me I'm surprised Virgin made any money there were so many hacked boxes around.

Looking on e-bay yesterday I noticed virgin boxes are still on sale. These boxes presumedly are quite useless but as they`re also illegal to sell because the boxes belong to virgin why are`nt virgin taking action against the sellers? Maybe its because virgin are so confident now that they can`t be modified? Anyway glad these rogues have been brought to book over there illegal activity.

Virgin do take action whenever they can with the ebay listings - but it's probably a bit like whack a mole
