Help needed please
I am 65 and somewhat able with a pc but one of my daughters just gave me a problem. She has a dell inspirion 1525 with vista and one of her boys somehow put a code on it and does not remember just exactly what he used. I told her that I would try to fix her problem. In searching for a recovery software I found many and at different prices. Does anyone know of a very good one that is free and simple to use. Any help will be apperciated.
My emails are [removed - psting email addys is a good way to attract junk to your account, and in any case answers should be posted here, unless from spammers] Thank you. |

What sort of code? Have you tried system restore?

Re: Help needed please
Where exactly does it ask for the code (I presume you mean a password).. as soon as you turn the PC on (boot code), when windows loads (login) or later (3rd party software) ??

Re: Help needed please
Most likely the windows login.......therefore reset the mobo?
edit........it's a laptop so that might be problematic :dunce: |

Re: Help needed please
If it is a windows logon password doesn't that give you the option to use a password reset disk, but I think you may need a flash drive or a usb floppy drive for it.

Re: Help needed please
If it's a bios password then you have a problem, Most laptops apart from samsung now use TPM - Trusted Platform Module - it stores the password in multiple places and can be a real headache to remove.
If it's the windows login password - use this http://www.pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/ Instructions are on the site. (Samsung laptops are a joke for security. Remove the memory cover and there are 2 solder pads marked 'RST' - short them with something metal and the bios password is gone.) |
Re: Help needed please
I remember Dell machines come with a jumper marked "PWD", remove jumper and password is deactivated. Not sure if their laptops worked in this way too...
