FTP Into TIVO Box?

Hi, I'm thinking of getting Tivo, I was wondering, can I FTP into the box to download my recorded shows to keep backed up?

No possible, currently there is no LAN access to the box, and knowing UK broadcasters that would never be allowed

There is a simple rule of thumb that helps out with these things.

Ask yourself: "Will this be useful to me and enhance my enjoyment"

If the answer is YES then no, it's not possible.

As people have said, the LAN port is currently disabled but, there is an option on "normal" TiVO's to be able to archive and play back to / from NAS type devices.

Virgin's TiVo has the media access key page - basically a page on the box that displays a unique code you need to connect to it from another device on your local network. It seems this feature may be "coming soon".....

Not being able to get to the recordings on Tivo is the biggest downer it has, and the main thing keeping me on Windows Media Centre.

I don't wish to steal content, but I do wish to watch it at my convenience, which may be in a different room to where the STB is, in a small window on my PC whilst doing something else, or even on my mobile. I do all of these things currently so would really miss this.

Of course, being able to get the decrypted DVB-C signal into Media Centre would be nirvana.

No one batted an eyelid when recording from tv onto the vhs video recorder but record the same program onto the pvr and its called a copyright breach and stealing.

Yes but its the storing it to another device which causes the problem. :naughty:

It should be able to go across to most recordable devices but it only transfers at the standard playing rate.
