V+ Box deletes recorded progs after reboot

I have only had the V+HD box for a week, but I must have had to reboot the thing 4 or 5 times already - the damn thing just freezes leaving you looking at a screen you can't get rid of. Last time I rebooted, it deleted half a dozen programmes I had recorded and deleted all my preset series recording settings.
Now the damn thing won't switch on from the remote.
Never had any issues with Sky+ over last five years other than its susceptibility to bad weather. Regretting the switch already.
Anyone any ideas (other than the bin!)?

Firstly, don't bin it. It's not yours to bin so VM could charge for it.

Why don't you give them a call and tell what has been happening. One of the advantages of being with VM is that they maintain or replace any faulty equipment.

As above call up and they will run checks on the box to ascertain the issue and if you bin it would be billed £250 as it is not your equipment.

To be fair, I wasn't going to bin the equipment, though I might the contract if this keeps happening - still in cool-off period after all.
Never had an issue with Sky+ losing recordings - ever - so this experience within a few days is not a good start for V+.
Will ring Virgin, but as you know, when you ring really makes a difference. I've not been home from work until late all this week and I don't have much faith in the late night call centre.

I think the fact that it keeps freezing means that no matter who you get through to, they'll do something.

Sounds like pure bad luck - as you know with every piece of kit, you are bound to get a faulty one. Ring VM ASAP and they should get a Tech to you as quickly as possible.

It does not matter with TV as they have a diagnostic flow to follow which will prompt them to ask certain questions and run specific checks which will tell them what the fault is and what to do next.

So with TV never worry about the time of day as it is fairly foolproof and if required it will tell them to book an engineer.

cant imagine anyone 'actually' thought you were going to put a brand new Tivo in your wheelie bin ha ha - gobsmacked you actually got responses to that - must be a thin day for news :D

Sound like HDD problem to me (deleting files on crash bit) - is there anyway to re-format HDD on Tivo? maybe VM only thing

I'm gobsmacked you think it's a TiVo. The thread title suggests otherwise.;):D

Definitely sounds like a faulty box to me. Hope you've been on to CS and got an engineer out hopefully with a replacement.

My post was a refresher regard swhat you would be charged to replace any box even one you may have given away or sold, but it was never a TiVo.:D

Contacted Virgin and they are sending an engineer to replace the box on Monday. Curious that they advised me 'to make sure everything was working before the engineer left'. Hhmm, isn't that kinda doing the engineer's job for him?

No, it's kinda making sure the engineer doesn't bugger off before you're satisfied that the problem is fixed.
