TV Clash Problem

I am currently recording the Soap Awards (8.00pm - 10.00pm)
as well as the Family Guy double bill (9.00pm - 9.30pm and then 9.30pm to 10.00pm)
whilst watching the Apprentice on BBC One - I just got a message come up on screen to say I need to change channel for the recording of the second Family Guy to happen.
Any reason why this has happened?
And then Fringe was meant to start recording at 10.00pm so at around 9.58pm all 3 tuner lights came on and I was forced to watch Sky1.

If all three tuners are recording then you will have to watch one of those channels if you want to watch live tv.

Will it help if I don't add padding at the start and end

If there is no padding, then it won't clash.

Yes - Tivo is not yet smart enough to drop padding on consecutive recordings (unlike V+) so it uses two tuners to record the same padding twice

There are some that say this is by design, and even pretend they like it :D

By design error more like. Even Tivo V1 had a mechanism to drop padding apparently according to a post I've read from a former owner.

VM need to introduce the ability to drop padding for clashes at the next release especially when the global padding is introduced or they will be in a mess with customer complaints.

I've managed to reduce the frequency of this happening by selecting +1 channels for recordings where I can spot a time when 3 tuners might be temporarilly needed during overlaps, or to drop padding on some recordings where I am reasonably confident the channel will not run late. That said, I've had 3 cases now where recordings have missed some of the start/end of programmes so it is a gamble either way!

I've written a couple of detailed posts on the VM support forum on this and plenty of others have mentioned the isssues which happen if padding cannot be dropped like the V+ did. So I think the message is getting back to VM will wait and see what happens!
