earthquake in spain sadly deaths
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-13368599
So sad to hear injuries and deaths. Love that part of the world alicante, benidorm was my first jaunt abroad many moons ago. Rip to those who died in it. Same magnitude of lincolnshires too in 2007. So why more devestation has it to do ours was in winter land was more solid. Are building regulations much stricter than ours. If it theyre is a reason with it being more arid would lincolnshires been worse in the summer after say like our present drought drying the soil. |
Re: earthquake in spain sadly deaths
I would guess their building standards are lower??

Apparantly been told Arid land can make some difference. Dry land can subside, crack generally put more stresses on building structure. Equally soggen ground can cause liquidfaction where building sink during quake. Although it was the same theye was pre shock 4.4 but each shock can be different intensities. So although ours was the same and if the soil was dry it might not caused it to be as bad but it would been worse than as soil was more solid. The fact lincolnshire is clay based soil too. |
Re: earthquake in spain sadly deaths
Apparently the town dates back to the Bronze age and the older part consists of a network of narrow alleyways. I'd guess that was a major factor in their being casualties because earthquakes aren't uncommon in Southern Spain.
RIP to the casualties:( |
