Virgin Media to close call centre

Communications giant Virgin Media is to to close a call centre over the next 18 months which union leaders said could lead to the loss of 500 jobs.
Don't know if this affects any staff on here as I have no idea what you all do, but I thought I'd mention it even if it doesn't :)

Bad news, of course, for those it affects. Really wish they'd close the overseas ones and bring all their call centres back into the UK but I don't suppose that's ever going to happen :(

This is not the first one they've closed either, I don't think; is it?

According to my friend who works there, VM or strictly speaking Virgin Mobile are shutting the place down with the loss of all jobs (about a 1000) as it is not just the call centre side but also the technology side.

It appears that they are outsourcing the jobs to - yes you guessed it - India.

Another typical attempt by a UK company to think they can save money by moving the role to overseas.

Here is another link about the same place http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/05/04/virgin_cuts/
