Reboot needed after turning off TV
I had my Tivo installed today and it seemed fine when the engineer left, but then I turned my TV to standby while I went out for a few minutes. When I turned the TV back on, all I got was a blank screen and no matter what I pressed on the remote (TV, Home etc) nothing changed neither did selecting any of the other HDMI inputs - which was no surprise as it was already correctly selected The only way I could get it to work was to cycle the power using the switch at the back of the box. This has since happened every time I have turned the TV to standby for anything more than a brief time :confused:
I have phoned Virgin Media and they have arranged for an engineer to call on Saturday, but it would be nice to resolve this before then if anyone has any ideas what could cause this. |

I've had a similar problem when watching a blu-ray and then trying to switch back to cable all I've got is a blank screen. Switching box to stanby and back is the only solution. All HDMI connected by the way.

Sounds like a tv handshake issue, I dont think the engineer could sort it. Switching off HDMI1 and back agian should bring the picture up

Well I've tried using a different socket in the TV but that didn't help, so I just tried a different cable but it still does not work properly. I have found that unplugging the HDMI cable and putting it back brings the picture & sound up. It also seems to be intermittent - every now and then it just works ok.

Update
An engineer came round this afternoon to look into this issue and initially said that he would just need to re-synch the hdmi signals, but this turned out not to fix it. He then tried another Tivo box that he had in his van (having just uninstalled it after the customer decided not to keep it) and that did the same thing, proving that my box was not faulty. He believes it may be a timing incompatibility between my JVC TV and the Tivo. He took all the details of the TV and my Tivo and said he would report the issue, in the hope that a resolution could be found such as a firmware revision that would cure the problem. So I guess I'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime he found that just turning off the mains switch on the TV, rather than switching to standby got round the problem - a much better work-around than unplgging & replugging the cable each time. |
