connection dropping
Hi Everyone had Virgin Broadband for years and nver had a problem until these last few months and the connection keeps dropping out then re-connecting.
I have phoned VM a few times and they have done many tests and they said the modem seems fine and has not cut off. I have just come home this afternoon and it has done the same again, So I called up VM and the guy also said the Modem seems fine so he is going to send out a new router as he thinks that might be the problem. I'm on the 10meg package and have the white net gear router so hope this works, I'm still using the old Blue NTL cable Modem with out the logo, what router is VM supplying now and do you think they might be right? thanks |
Re: connection dropping
post your modem stats, sometimes the techs miss SNR, the sometimes just see the power levels are okay and dismiss it as the problem
http://192.168.100.1 and post the downstream and upstream stats I dont know what he is sending you, it might be the new 'hub' for the 10mb package, you wont find out until it arrives anyway |

Re: connection dropping
When you lose connection does either the Ready light or the SYNC light on the right start flashing if not it will be the router.
Your NTL 250 is fine on a 10Mb connection. |
Re: connection dropping
I will have to check next time it goes off, he said when I get the new router I will have to ring up, so has it got a built in modem?

Re: connection dropping
got a black D-Link router with a Virgin Media CD, I was told my a friend at VM not to use the modem built in and keep the old blue one? also should I bother using VMs CD?
|
Re: connection dropping
The black D-Link router does not have a built in modem, it is a router not a hub.
Don't use the CD follow the steps in the link Masque has given you above. |
Re: connection dropping
like you said i you have been using this broadband for 5 years so i asume you got old router or modem as well. Just get it replaced by calling virginmedia.

Re: connection dropping
He's just received a replacement D-Link router. See post 8

Re: connection dropping
all setup so we will see how it goes, the d-link router seems to fit the cables in better then the netgear, not sure if thats just me but seems more solid when the enet cable is in lol.
