Movies on demand - no subtitles

I had always understood that BBC catch up did not have subtitles - so helped choose what I would record on my V+ versus what we woudl just use catch up for - however with my shiny new TiVo thought we would watch a film from teh on demand store at the weekend rather than using the video rental shop. Cannot belive that no subtitles available!

Is this normal, or it it movie/prodction company specific?

It's not currently technically possible on VoD. Subs are available on the BBC iPlayer App on TiVo though as the delivery method is different.

Could Virgin not do a box office type thing like sky,
A couple of extra channels to show ppv movies which would
allow subtitles?

Absolutely agree - same thing with BBci - that just needs additional channels like freeview (301, 302, 303), but again "it's not technically posible" on Tivo. The more time I spend n TiVo the more I realise they just got carried away with what teh box can do technically, and gforgot to focus on what the customer wants .It's not driven by customer needs but by the technical capability of the existing US box. Disapponted in Virgin, they used to excel at meeting customer needs.

All this is being done by TiVo and much more. The plans for BBC red button app on TiVo sound amazing. i.e. the multi-screens for the Olympics 2012.

TiVo in the US has never had red button, so it's a whole new build to work with the TiVo box.

The alternative would have been to delay the launch until 2012, and would it really be worth it for red button?

It's worth noting that the BBC iPlayer App on TiVo carries subtitles, so this is a step forward, but some people seem stuck in the past or fail to see the benefits.

TiVo is all about the customer, the possibilities over the old Liberate software is jawdropping IMHO.
