Pub singer's arrest over Kung Fu Fighting performance

I can't quite believe this :disturbd::eek:

Simon Ledger says he fears she will end up with a criminal record for performing the 1974 disco classic at a seafront bar on the Isle of Wight on Sunday after two people walking past apparently took offence.

I can understand the police feeling obliged to investigate ... if it goes any further than that, it'll be a travesty.

Investigate yes, but to arrest the singer seems ridiculous!

Many songs include lyrics that may be deemed "offensive" or "racist" when viewed out of context by someone who may be overly sensitive or just out to cause trouble, are the police going to arrest half the singers enjoying a Folk night or a night on the karaoke???

As Zing says "The world's gone mad"!!!!!

You can?

In that case perhaps they should also be pursueing the guy that sang the song originally as he doesn't look chinese either..

I'm with Zing on this one, the world's gone mad and it's way past time that people realised how pathetic this has become.

The police should have told the original complainer to take a long calming walk down the pier.

If I were the police officer investigating this claim, I would have seen sense and dismissed this for what it is. Wouldn't most of us have done the same?
Probably why we're not in the police :(

I don't recall any offensive lyrics in the song, what are they?

Absolutely rediculous that the Police waste time and manpower investigating spurious complaints such as this.

Thats thanks to the wonders of the national crime recording standards. The Police no longer get to decide if something is too trivial to investigate.

Thats why on quiet news days you get stories about theft of crisps from an open packet, assault by throwing slices of cucumbers etc.

Would the complainant(s) have complained if the singer had been Chinese(or simply not white)? Of course not, therefore it is the complainant(s) that are racist and harassing the singer.

Yet another example of oppression of the majority by minorities.

I'm not aware that every single 'Kung Fu fighter' would be chinese in any case, granted the practise may have originated from China but its not an exclusively Chinese thing is it.

Presumably so the result can be reclassified to fit that non-existant performance target that was abolished a while ago.

In other news, Police hunt joker who drew hitler Moustache.

Quote:

A rural police force has been criticised for starting an investigation after a poster making a local councillor look like Hitler was put up on a village notice board.

At least four officers are said to have visited residents in the hamlet of Pitcombe, Somerset, after a poster of the Conservative councillor Mike Beech had a Hitler-like moustache drawn on it.

After seeing the poster, Mr Beech reported it to the police. Officers began an inquiry under the Public Order Act, saying that the poster could be deemed to cause “harassment, alarm and distress” to the councillor.

Officers even conducted house-to-house inquiries, visiting homeowners at each of the hamlet’s 20 houses. Villagers said the investigation was “an outrageous waste of police and taxpayers’ money”.
These public order offences are becoming a bit of a joke really.
