Avast 6 update problem?
Hi guys, earlier when I logged in to our admin account I noticed the a windows security centre alertt telling me that my AV might be out of date. I clicked on the Avast button and sure enough the main Avast user maintenance screen opened was offered an update of both the engine/definitions and programme. I did this and the system restarted but the same thing happened plus I also got an alert from Avast (via a red alert box at the bottom of the screen) that the virus definitions were out of date. I again clicked on the Avast button and the maintenance section of the user screen reappeared. I clicked on both update options and both came back with confirmation that they were up to date as I'd expected. Why is it then that I'm still getting out of date notifications from Windows (XP SP3) and Avast? Also why did Avast update itself in the first place, it's supposed to be automatic?

Re: Avast 6 update problem?
Just to say that I seem to have solved this issue (for now at least) with the help of these people this morning.
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=76528.0 I'd recommend them to anyone with Avast issues. :) Oh, just to add uninstalling/reloading the programme seemed to do the trick so perhaps there was a glitch in the system beforehand. I'll be keeping fingers crossed for the next few weeks though as I have a suspicion that the problem was due to an error relating to the 30 day registration period. I did successfully register the software the first time I installed it and but it's as though the system didn't fully recognise that somewhere along the line. Anyway we'll see if it happens again.... |
Re: Avast 6 update problem?
I've had problems on and off with Avast and looked to the Avast forums for help, but it seems to be patrolled by some right knobs with chips on their shoulders :)

Re: Avast 6 update problem?
I just got the feeling it was never Avast that was the problem it was always your PC/OS/Dogs fault or you were using it on a day with 'Y' in it. It's like 'Ravenholm' now, I don't go there anymore :)
