I've got a belkin's N router and was wondering whether I could use my modem mac in the router itself instead of its own?

More to the point.....why? What are you trying to acheive? Once we know that, we may be able to advise/help.

You can not use the modem MAC in the router as the router MAC is on the WAN side so you'll be attempting to get two pieces of equipment with the same MAC trying to talk to each other.. This will instantly fail...

Can you provide the link to the thread on the VM forums?
