Re: Hope Not Too Many Councils Are Doing This
This is happening all over the country, not just in London, this coalition is a disgrace, how the hell can they expect to get away with the slaughter of council services is beyond me.
To get extra revenue, they are putting up parking tickets and charging more to park your car. The coalition said that they would do this over a period of years, if this is what they are doing now, what will happen in a years time - disgraceful |
Re: Hope Not Too Many Councils Are Doing This
anyone think we may see some Derek Hatton type councilors emerging ?

The article is saying that Haringey council has announced all these cuts, but by trimming it *own* expenses (for taxes and catering specifically), it could save enough money to maintain a lot of front line services. Still, that is what Labour councils seem to do. When asked to cut, they are happy to cut front line services, and, indeed, make a big fuss of how they are being forced to, while ensuring that they themselves are still protected, and any friends they may have are also protected. |

Yes, Andrew Gilligan is clearly trying to portray a balanced and accurate picture here, and there is absolutely no reason to believe he's cherry picking the date to suit his agenda. Of course he might be accurate and balanced when presenting the numbers, but he's not exactly setting the stage for it. Shame really... |
Re: Hope Not Too Many Councils Are Doing This
I don't excuse his rant but I can see why he framed things in those terms. I've seen that paper and it really is an utter propaganda piece that you'd expect to see in Soviet Russia more than north London.

On a more general note if you want your pension to be paid without the previous generation paying the kind of taxes that would make your eyes water something has to give. |
Re: Hope Not Too Many Councils Are Doing This
It's time that all Local Authority budgets were independantly audited on, reported on and published in full.
They shouldn't be allowed to "bury" millions here and there in their accounts. Full and total transparency is required. |
Re: Hope Not Too Many Councils Are Doing This
Along with a disclaimer on these pieces of propaganda reminding people where the money these guys are bragging about spending actually came from in the first place. I still don't understand why so many people don't get that government does not have its own money, it all comes from us.
For example - http://www.lambeth.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyr...E/0/LL111a.pdf Not especially subtle. Cost to Lambeth's tax payers in 2009-10 £562,443. |
Re: Hope Not Too Many Councils Are Doing This
councils have long had corruption this is nothing new.
same sort of thing here also. council is closing libraries, care for elderly and disabled as well as legal aid cuts. Yet they just unveiled a new mosque that cost 6 figures. |
