Super Hub Query
I'm thinking of upgrading to 50Mb. Fortunately there is only me in my house and 1 desktop so i'm connected to the internet by ethernet from modem to the tower and not by a router.
My question is - all these problems with the new Super Hub is that just the router side of things or the modem as well? |
Re: Super Hub Query
You will have the router switched on and have to use a Lan output as there is no Wan\Lan output as on a standalone modem.
Most of the complaints with the Superhub arise from the fact that it is very limited on features compared with self acquired routers and there are currently no acceptable work arounds. The wireless is also questionable in strength and range. Providing that your line (signal strength etc) has not caused you problems then the Superhub should be a seamless change and hopefully you will see no problems. |
Re: Super Hub Query
I thought you could switch the router part of the Superhub off and just use the modem part of it?

Most of the complaints about functionality of the router are from people wanting a by-pass of the Superhub router so as to use their own. Your situation is comparable as you would like the unit as a standalone which in essence is what a lot of people want. |
Re: Super Hub Query
I think i'll leave it for now, thanks for the help.
I knew the superhub was bad but i didn't know it was that bad. All those millions of people who don't use or own a router because it's not as good as being connected by ethernet from modem to tower/laptop and they go and release a superhub and the only way you can use it is via the router. I don't get it. All i want is 1 modem, 1 ethernet cable plugged in the back of it and then plugged in the back off the tower. |

IMO VM have, at considerable expense to themselves (I imagine), scored a mighty own goal with this ill conceived and implemented combined modem/router strategy. Far from lessening the support burden and promoting sales, I fear, due to the bad publicity generated and the poorly implemented and limited feature set (many of which fail to work as expected), it may be having just the opposite effect. |
