On-Demand - US Boxsets

Question for the VM staff here I suppose (unless anyone else can help!)...

The US Boxsets in TV Choice on Demand - is the plan for each series to only be available for one calendar month?

Reason I ask is I watched the whole House : Season One in January (it disappeared end of January), and have started watching Season Two in February. I'm only half way through, so am going to have to get a shift on watching the rest if it is going to disappear next week!

There is no "available until" date on the item in the V+ VOD menus, so if anyone knows what VM's plan is with these it would be much appreciated info!

Also - if S2 disappears next week, I assume it will be replaced with S3?

Good question, Paul. We used to have a "available until date" on the VoD menus.

Does it say anything on our online VoD Guide? I'll have a look now for you......

No it doesn't say on our online guide either.

Yeah I remember seeing it on the House assets towards the end of Jan - it was saying 3,2,1 days left to watch.

Not the most useful if it starts telling me this on Saturday and I've got to find time to watch 12 episodes! :)

Out of interest, is there any technical limitation for the content being rotated? Could a library of content not just be built up at VM's end by adding extra storage? Or can the STB's/servers not handle an always-growing list of content?

Would be pretty awesome if they could archive older stuff as well.

ha ha, yeah I know what you mean :)

It's more of a rights issues about having content available. The rights owners also want DVD/Blu-ray sales.

We had feedback that content was slow to change, but i guess it works the other way too if you only get the chance to watch a few eps! lol

a lot of storage has recently been added too, so VoD content should start to grow this year.

The hardest thing with on demand in general has always been keeping a track on what is on there, and for how long.

I do thing VM could improve the way they communicate this, like a monthly/weekly e-mail or something. Or similar to sky's never miss, let you get notified when something you like appears.

At the moment you either seem to have to just keep checking, or hit lucky when something appears you might like.

Quick update on this

The on-screen menu does indeed say when the item is available until

When browsing the episode list you get:

Episode Name
Running Time
Date available until

Problem is none of these columns have headers, so it wasn't obvious to stupid ol' me what the date shown was referring to

:)
