Question

Basically I just switched to VIRGIN cable. I was wondering if it was possible to use a modem router with the cable modem.

I've got the TP-LINK TD-W8950ND

Edit: I've connected everything up. My computer can connect to the router however not the internet.

Re: Question

If it's a superhub then not yet.. They are looking at releasing a firmware with bridged mode (that'll turn the hub into just a modem) (probably end of this year or later) but in the mean time unless you turn off NAT on your router and use it as a Switch/WAP you can not have two routers on the same system

I dont have two routers, i've got a modem and a 'modem router'.

Thank you for the quick reply.

Re: Question

Which modem do you have?? If it's a recent install then it'll probably be a hub (modem and router in one) and not just a modem which would account for your issue.. Read the model number off the modem please (not the serial/MAC)

Re: Question

OK that one is purely a modem then so the router should work.. Is the router getting an IP address from the modem? Also did you reset the modem and router after attaching it to the router?

Yes i have done. My computer does connect to the router however there's no internet connection. I go onto the router setup and it asks for the connection type and i have no idea what it is.

The options are PPP over ATM, PPP over Ethernet, IP over ATM or MAP encapsulation routing.

I chose the second one. This may be the problem.

Re: Question

Now that answers everything

You can NOT use an ADSL router over cable, you need a cable router (has a seperate ethernet WAN port instead of the ADSL port)
