HomePlug + Switch?
Hi, hope you can help me...So i've upgraded to 20mb Cable and bought new homeplugs as throughput was very low on the solwise 85mb plugs. I now have the following setup
SuperHub (Wired Printer, NAS, HomePlug1) Using 3 Ports so far Homeplug 2 = pc Homeplug 3 = pc Homeplug 4 = PS3 Now what I want to do is move the NAS downstairs and plug this and the PS3 into one homeplug. To do this I guess I would need a switch something like this... http://www.ebuyer.com/product/184892 The Nas Currently has a static IP of 192.168.0.5, How would I make sure that when its plugged into the switch the NAS still has the same IP? I'm slightly confused how the swich gives each device an IP and what the Superhub will see? Will the superhub just see the one switch has one ip? or will it see different ip's for all attached devices? Thank you for the help |
Re: HomePlug + Switch?
Switches don't give devices IPs and do not have IPs themselves. Devices will act in most respects as if they were connected directly to the Superhub.
Also, that's a little overpriced for a basic ethernet switch. You should be able to get them for £5 or less. |
Re: HomePlug + Switch?
So what your saying is that....If I plug in a switch and connect my NAS and PS3...under attached devices in the router I will still see a seperate ip assigned for each device?
Anychance you can recommend a good gigabit switch? |
Re: HomePlug + Switch?
Yes.
As for a gigabit switch - I wouldn't bother, since you're not going to get speeds through the homeplug of more than 100mbps anyway. They do cost a bit more, but even cheap ones like the following will work fine: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TPLINK-5-PORT-...item27b4b4cf9d |
