Hi, I know this is my first post and I apologise if I'm repeating discussions that have already taken place. I did use the search first.....

As discussed on many forums, using WIFI with the PS3 in conjunction with the Superhub has been a nightmare.

Eventually after configuring the wireless on the Superhub to:

WPA2-AES

Speeds up to 145mb

And a fixed channel (I used 11)

Switching off firewall and ipflood.

Okay, wonderful it found it when I scanned for WiFi on the PS3

but...

The speeds are atrocious. I couldn't even download the latest PS3 firmware.
On connecting via LAN, it was perfect. I'm on the 30 Meg line btw.

Now, on doing a network test on the PS3 it gave 3 very different download and upload results on the 3 times I ran it.

1st time - Up 798kbps down 348kbps
2nd time - Up 1.5 kbps down 780kbps
3rd time - Up 3.5 kbps down 1kbps

This was all done within an hour of each other.

With the fluctuating results like this sometimes I can connect to a games server and other times I get spurious connection error codes. Even the PS Store intermittently fails to load and show the thumbnails etc.

Any advice? I will consider purchasing the LAN over Mains adaptors if someone could recommend one that is PS3 compatible.

What a nightmare this would be for your average Joe Bloggs though who isn't necessarily tech savvy, eh?

I have a wired connection to my PS3 and don't have speed issues yet with my 50Mb connection via the new super hub but I hear the link I've provided should really help.

Yeah, there is no substitute for a wired connection for the PS3, something I am strongly considering if this doesn't improve things.

What's your wirless signal strength like on the PS3, just out of curiosity

I find the wireless strength on the superhub to be just a little weak compared to my old setup.

When you got the superhub, did you not get a big long length of ethernet cable you could use to hard wire your PS3.

Normally about 55%. To be honest, my previous router wasn't all that strong either - it was a cheapy Dynamode one, but it never acted like this when communicating with the PS3.

Yeah, I could do the workaround to make this the router on the Hub, but a bit defeatist and I'd rather avoid it if possible.

I did indeed get the squillion metre ethernet cable and for a quick temporary measure, I can run it into the room where the Hub is. Sadly, I've got laminate flooring down, so can't go down a service hatch to make it discrete. Hence the reason I'm thinking about getting an ethernet to mains system.

55% is a bit poor, Ive got a PS3 upstairs (hub downstairs) and get a good signal (95%) but its still not as good as my wired console downstairs.

I think you need to go down the wired route (via powerline adapters) but having never used them I cant recommend any unfortunately.

I suppose drilling a couple of holes and running the ethernet cable on the exterior of your property is out of the question.

Lol, yeah that's even more complicated. There are ways round it and I should manage to find a run somehow. I can create an access panel in a cupboard if need be, but the stupid heating engineers have run the gas pipes through the access holes in the foundations.

It's an old house with solid brick walls and I doubt that I have ever got above the 50% percent even with the old router. I know on the PS3 that the test run, when it comes to speeds, is for reference only. I never had any need or reason to test the speeds with the old router. Albeit, downloads were pants (but not as bad as now) So I don't know if running the test 3 times on the old setup would have given inconsistent results or not. I would be much obliged if you could test that for me and let me know if you do indeed get 3 different varied sets of results. All my mates own 360's, lol.

I also had issues with a PS3 over wireless (dlna errors etc), and tried lots of so called solutions from the internet, all failed miserably, so in the end I bit the bullet and bought a couple of Solwise Homeplugs (200Mbps) and since then no issues connecting to the internet, streaming HD movies etc well worth it and only about 10mins to set up.

I've never had much luck with the wireless in my PS3. I've never had a problem connecting to the internet but It's always been slow. I've had three different routers in the time I've owned a PS3 and each one offered pretty woeful speeds.

I don't go online much on the PS3 but I was streaming some music to it the other day and even that was intermittently cutting out. In the end I just ran a cable and problem solved.

Is the Mac Address of the old modem still recognised. I have the splitter box right behind the telly. Will it work and is it allowed if I connected another coax between that and the modem and connected it to the PS3?

I'm pretty sure that cant be done, I think once your account has been transferred to another modem then your old modem is defunct.

You can only have one modem on an account, as the SH is a modem that's it.

The MAC on the old modem may still be registered the only way to find out is swap it with the SH.

The old modem will no longer work if a Superhub has been activated.
