Welcome to the forum

You'll need to forward a port through which isn't being used externally

For example if the camera used 192.167.0.200 on port 80 you'd set up an external port 2000 (or any other free port number) to forward to the internal IP and port. Read your router manual as to how to set up ports as every router is slightly different

Re: Wifi Camera Setup

Hello,

The camera ip is 192.168.1.70 and it says port 80,
How do i know what port is available?
I have got the bt homehub, it asks for the following:
Protocol
Port Range (from - to)
Translate to ( from - to)
Trigger Protocol
Trigger Port

Many Thanks

Re: Wifi Camera Setup

Most external ports are available, just choose a high 4 digit number (something like 8881 for example) then try it out.. Remember that behind the router you won't be able to use the external address so you'll have to test it out from a true 3rd party connection

Re: Wifi Camera Setup

Hi, i just get the status 'UPnP Failed: Errors in Chat with UPnP Device' from the camera

Thanks

Re: Wifi Camera Setup

Are you trying to test the port forwarding from a local PC?? If so then yes it will fail.. Also are you using TCP or UDP?

Which camera is it and which router.. Also if you wish to PM me the address and the port I can test it for you.

Re: Wifi Camera Setup

Hi it wont let me pm you because you don't have space,

[mod:IP removed after test]

It works at the moment because i am using DMZ (to force the ip to the device, its only when i try to port forward it doesn't work and says:UPnP Failed: Errors in Chat with UPnP Device.

The camera only seems to be a IR IP CAM, there is no make.

The router is the home hub 2.0

Many Thanks

Re: Wifi Camera Setup

The camera is either a generic foscam or a foscam clone (dealextream are getting sued for making copies of the device)

The uPNP is known to be faulty so try disabling it..

Here's one web page but there are others if you search

Re: Wifi Camera Setup

Putting your Wifi cam on the Internet is asking for trouble. It's a matter of time before footage will appear on Youtube. Most use older and hackable Linux versions for their web interfaces.

You are better using a VPN router and hide behind it to only allow remote access via your VPN using heavy encryption. PM me if you need details.

Port scanners will find your camera in seconds once they have hacked your system.

Forget port forwarding etc. Use a VPN router and a VPN client on your remote system. Shrewsoft is a very good free piece of VPN client software.

Once you have selected a VPN tunnel to your system, you will have full control. Most will drop any incoming connections that fail authentication after a few attempts.

The system he's using is password protected so youtube shouldn't be an issue ;)
