Anarchy in Egypt?

I have a very bad feeling about all this. Aside from anything else, if it turns out that the current regime in Egypt is replaced by an Islamist administration, Israel will feel under even greater threat and I can see the potential for massive bloodshed at some point in the not too distant future.

tbf, it is extremely unlikely that would happen - more likely that a Military Junta would take over.

Here is a good article (imho) about the the situation in Egypt, explaining why it's not just an either/or situation between Mubarak and the Muslim Brotherhood.

In fact, the leader of the MB said this time last year
Quote:

"Show the world the true Islam, the Islam of moderation and forgiveness that respects pluralism in the whole world."

Fingers crossed. I wonder if the Israelis will see it that way and be prepared to wait and see what turns up next door if it isn't looking good. It's their judgement which matters and if at some point they perceive their interests at risk then I really fear for what may happen.

I hope they wait, otherwise popular tourist areas may become large sheets of glass....

I was expecting this after Tunisia.. Mubarak though doesn;t seem to have a clue that they want him to go with all his supposedly compliant measures of replacing the goverment and appointing one of his own closest allies as VP

Politicians in Egypt make ours look like rank amateurs when it comes to the gravy train and corruption. Many pay huge sums to get elected because they know that it's so lucrative to be in government.

And the president is the top sponger, as was the Tunisian Presidential family.

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak has said he will stay in office and transfer all power only after September's presidential election.
His comments in a national TV address confounded earlier reports that he was preparing to stand down immediately.

I expect a party after Friday prayers... then a riot?

So, the figurehead has stepped down but the army is still running the show.

The boys with the guns are still in charge and America is still paying the Israel protection money. So what's gonna change?
