PC upgrade advice
I've been looking around the net but there are mixed opinions.
I've ordered my CPU 800W peaks at 900w AM3 CPU x4 3.4ghz going to get 8 gig of DDR 3 But the motherboard is the problem I like Gigabyte boards and thats what I am going for. I've been reading about sata 3 however reviews of people are saying that its not worth getting boards at the moment with them as its just a fancy marketing ploy and they dont really work as good as they should. However I have a Gigabyte board already that is AM2+ (AM3 ready) and will take the CPU I have. it uses DDR 2 (8gig) and has sata2 controllers. This new board has - usb 3.0 and SATA3 and Esata. Is it actually worth getting this board costing around £75 or am I best waiting at the moment until the above is more supported? I'm upgrading my tower as well to a Antec Dark Fleet DF-85 Case. The future wife is letting me spend the last of my money before we get married in August so its kind of like a future upgrade to last a while so I dont want to cut myself short with my DDR 2 board but dont want to waste £75 on a board that I wont get any use or major improvment over what I have now. |
Re: PC upgrade advice
you will lose bandwith by staying with ddr2 however if you have no intention of purchasing a Sata 6g hard drive or any usbe peripherals then I would stick with your board for now

Re: PC upgrade advice
Well I have 5 HD's
3 7200 rpm drives 2x 160gig 1x 500gig 1x 128gig SSD 1x 320gig portable drive 1x IDE DVD writer 1x USB DVD writer So as for Sata 3 drives no I wont be getting any at least not at the moment if ever. I dont know if there is an imrovment using Sata2 drives on SATA3 connections and whether I will get much performance going from DDR2 800 to DDR 3 1333 Would it be worth getting the board as a possible future upgrade? I've not actually looked on the net at USB3 However I do use a portable HD and dvd drive via usb (not often) the HD is more for backup and the other USB connections used are for my Xbox 360 control (wireless) and my thrustmaster steering wheel as well as my keyboard, mouse and printer. |
Re: PC upgrade advice
well I would not buy something now hoping it will be useful in the future I would buy when I want the stuff. Its not the right time for big upgrades really AM3+ is just round the corner
