creating a access point
i all, hope someone can offer me some help & advice please,
i have the VM super hub 100mb,but have a few problems not all of my wireless gear will run on 5ghz & i have a serious dead spot in the house, so what i would like to do is set up a access point (i think thats what i need) i have a d-link dir 615 router which i believe can be used as a access point & two home plugs,i changed the setting in the router to access point, and it greyed out everything else now in the super hubs section device connection status it says the dir-615 is connected,i named the ssid the same as the superhub which i believe is right, now in the superhub under wireless it says ssid bla bla channel 11 2nd channel 7 802.11 mode up to 300mbps 802.11N BAND 2.4ghz (which i need to change) now the connection does seem stronger where the dead spot is but how can i be sure it is working ? and once i change the 2.4ghz to 5ghz will i still be able to connect with my older gear ? do i need to set up a guest network ? sorry about it being long winded just wanted to explain. so have i done it right or is it all wrong ??? thank you. abb |

Re: creating a access point
Sounds about right to me.
Download NetStumbler (or similar) as that allows you to see which access points are transmitting. If it is working you should see both transmitters with different MAC addresses on the same SSID. |
