Additional STB

Hi,

I currently have a V+ box, with an additional box upstairs. The additional box upstairs was my original box, a Pace 4000 I think, but of course it isn't HD. Just wondered if its poss. to ask for an HD box upstairs. The website only seems to offer HD boxes for the additional box so is that standard for the additional STB now ?

My costs are below. Looks as though I'm paying £5.50 for the additional box. Would I have to pay more if asked for an HD one ? Putting my bundle into the website comes up with £54 rather than the £48 i'm paying so i'm cautious about changing anything

thanks.

If you add a V+ HD box then you will pay £99 for the box and could get away with any installation costs. If you want VHD box then it is £49 for the box. should be no extra monthly charge as you are already paying £5.50 for the additional stb

ok, thanks for that. I'll think it over. So its not possible to have a standard box any longer? What will they do when my Pace finally dies? Only got to be a matter of time with the amount of dust in my bedroom ;) It even predates NTL and has 'Cable and Wireless' on it ! Quite fond of it though, never let me down.

Haven't got an HD telly upstairs yet, but might get one in the sales. Not sure i want a V+ in the bedroom as its not the quietest thing, assume a VHD would be quieter.

Mine v+ certainly isn't loud, hardily noticeable

if you get the Samsung V+ then there is no noise problems, if you get the VHD Cisco box then there are no noise issues. you could keep the setup the same and just replace the existing stb that you have upstairs with a samsung v box which we still use down here. all i know is contractors use VHD box's on ALL new installs regardless of whether they are having HD or not, but i still still have the samsung v boxs too which i still use here. I would normally stick in a VHD but if customer wants the normal one then i stick that in lol so its upto you, but i would recommended going for the Cisco VHD box as you dont have to have the HD activated on the box if you dont want (but you can do so at a later stage) and can still use it via HDMI or Scart whicheva you prefer.

The standard box is the V HD without the HD activated. The £49 gets the HD activated.

Thanks, think i get it now. So to get HD i'd have to get my pace box swapped for a VHD (presumably no cost), and get it HD activated for £49.

Yes, except they would be unlikely to swap your existing box if it's working OK and there's no guarantee that the replacement would be a V HD anyway.

If your existing box is OK then there would be a self-install charge of £20 to cover postage and package of the new box and return of the old. I suggest that they wouldn't be willing to supply a V HD in this way unless you were willing to activate the HD at the same time.

If the box is working ok then the would be no requirement for us to swap it out, if you want another box then go down the HD Vbox route especially if you have a flat screen television.

I would recommend the V+ because you can record 2 channels while watching a third.
