converting to avi
 

I'm trying to rip some dvd's to avi which are then loaded onto a Tvix M3100, the problem I have is they dont all work after being ripped, I can copy two films and one works, one doesn't or sometimes neither and I dont know what prevents it from working on the Tvix, I'm using clonedvd mobile to rip and convert the film and that says succsessful after the rip and plays ok on pc windows media etc, but transfer to Tvix and its a hit or miss as to whether it will work, am I doing something wrong somewhere, tried two dvd players both get same results sometimes yes an sometimes no, cant seem to find many settings in the software to get a good setup with perfect results, is it trial and error or are there better softwares out there.

Use Gspot to perhaps tell you the difference in the AVI's once you've encoded them to AVI..

the website isnt working for me. What spec does it say its compatible with? Does it support Mpeg or Divx/Xvid?

how much storage does it have? It looks like it would just accept a ripped dvd to vob format. Or perhaps rip to xvid see if thats better

avi seems to be the popular choice of conversion, hard drive is 400gb and its nearly full, but that should not be the reason a rip works or doesn't should it !

no not at all was just seeing if there was room to leave as vob. Xvid is a container for AVI its worth a go to see if it results with better compatable rips

There can be a multitude of reasons why an avi fails to play on a stand alone media player. The fact that it will play on a computer is no guide at all. :(
Here are some things to consider:
Avi that uses GMC usually will not play.
Avi that uses QPEL usually will not play.
Avi that uses more than 2 consecutive B-VOPs may be problematical. (Rare)
Avi with a resolution exceeding 720 x 576 usually will not play.
Avi using anything other than Square Pixels can be problematical or will not play.
Avi with file size exceeding 2GB can be problematical or will not play.

Avi with file size exceeding 2GB can only be in Multi-Part Open DML format which many players have difficulty with.

Recently I notice some "1Click" rippers/converters are producing Multi-Part Open DML format avi for avi with file sizes not exceeding 2GB. This is both unconventional and unnecessary. Conventional avi should use Single-Part Open DML format. This is what players expect and consequently the unconventional format can be rejected.

Some players (mine :) ) are not licensed to play Divx and so only Xvid avi will play.

Things to try:
AGK produces conventional and compatable avi from decrypted sources.
ARC produces conventional and compatable avi from incompatable avi.
If your player can use MKV, wrapping your problem avi in an MKV container by remuxing with mkvmerge found in MKVtoolnix can help.

I've downloaded 99% of my vids on it (I own DVDs but converting them all would take too long). Only a few I've had freezes the box. But only 5 or so total

I bought a Optima PK301 Pico Projector, which has a built in media player.

I comes with convertion SW, but on the site is a newer version, which has a 15 day trial, this can rip DVDs to AVIs and also to other formats, I only tried a self made DVD though.
