Touchpad almost unusable

Hi guys I have acquired a HP Compaq NC6400 Laptop, which all works fine, apart from the touchpad which when you try to use the cursor just goes mad all over the screen :td: I have updated the driver to the latest, done all sorts of configuration options but I cant seem to fix, the laptop also has a "point stick" but I prefer using the track pad as it is easier to use.

TIA

Perhaps it just needs any crap that's crept under the plastics cleaning out?

● TouchPad tapping, which enables you to tap the TouchPad once to select an object or twice to
double-click an object (enabled in factory settings).
● Edge motion, which enables you to continue to scroll even though your finger has reached the
edge of the TouchPad (disabled in factory settings).
● Button preference, which allows you to switch between left-hand and right-hand use (right-hand
preference is enabled in factory settings).
Other features, such as mouse speed preferences and mouse trails, are also found in Mouse Properties.
To access Mouse Properties, select Start > Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware >

Bump.

The touchpad seems to stop being erratic and jumpy when the AC power is unplugged :S any ideas?

Edit again :dozey:: Ordered a new power supply for the laptop, from googling it seems to be a common problem.

TIA

Hi I'm using Windows 7, have tried all those options but none seem to work, as I said it only works properly when the laptop is running on battery power :)
