Astraweb

Hi Folks,

Sorry if this has already been discussed. I recently upgraded to 50mb and have found that i can't get above 30mb at anytime of the day.

Also the major issue for me is that my downloads from Astraweb have dropped to around 3mb. This is a constant problem and not just when enforcements may be in place. (Astraweb aren't reporting any problems and i have tried the europe and US servers)

I have tried wireless(n) and wired connections to the Virgin supplied router and they all seem the same.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

PS
When i was on 20mb it was rock solid and always ran at 20mb no matter what i did.

Are you using ssl? And what speeds do you get wired?

I have tried with and without ssl. I always used ssl when i was on 20mb and never had a problem.

Never had any faster than this at any time of day.

In Derby if it matters.

Re: Astraweb

You should use ssl if you want your full speed inside of shaping hours. Is that speedtest over wireless or wired to the router/modem?

Over wired :(

Would you use the standard ssl port?

Yep but if you are getting those speed on speedtest your problem lies elsewhere can you post your power levels?

Re: Astraweb

Try using SSL but with the non-standard port number 443. As far as I know, VM are capping speeds for newsgroup traffic during the day on the standard 119 (non-SSL) and 563 (SSL) ports. :td:

I had this problem on 10mb a while back, you shouldn't have to use SSL. I changed my server to the EU one, and change my port and everything was back to normal. Im on 50Mb now and enjoing 6MB/S downloads :)

He will have to use SSL now if its during traffic shaping hours otherwise he will be stuck somewhere between 1.5-3MB/s

Im gussing the shaping hours are 5pm till midnight? If so, i've not been restricted, my files have been going a full 6MB/s during this time since i've had 50mb using an alternate port on non SSL.

Thanks for replies.

It seems whatever the issue was it has now resolved itself.

After trying different settings with no change i was starting to get frustrated :( then out of the blue last night it suddenly changed.

All my settings are as they have always been and i'm now getting 50mb on the speedtest and 50+ from Astraweb.

Cheers

I use port 563 on Easynews and don't have a problem with traffic management any time of the day!?!?!
