Why have over 10mbit ?

I'm sitting here and seriously starting to wonder why and what I pay for exactly.

My local UBR has finally been upgraded to allow for higher uploads, currently im on 20mbit so its 2mbit very nice great, im sure that's useful for file sharing.,. or video conferencing.. whatever

But now i find my Download capped at 5/6mbit between 5pm and Midnight and ALL WEEKENDS...

Im out of the house at 8am, I don't get home till gone 6pm so what is the point here ?

Anyone else in the same boat as me and feel a bit ripped off ? If the traffic policy would cap people individually then i might think it was fair but at the moment i seem to be blanket penalised all the time to allow for heavy users and an increase in upstream at the expense of down.....

It will only be capped for heavier use. In theory the package you are on assumes just a general useage. At 20mbit speeds, I rarely find myself subject to STM thresholds, and generally find that my normal needs of gaming, a bit of web browsing checking a couple of you tube type vids all easily fits my needs and yet when I do need that latest game patch I don't need to sit there twiddling my thumbs for half the evening. If I want to do bit of uploading to update a website, or game servers, again the added upstream bandwidth comes in handy. If I am going to hammer my connection with a bit of leeching from newsgroups and the like, then I'll do that at unrestricted times of day.

If you are finding yourself capped all the time, you are probably on the wrong package for your use profile.

You need over 10Mbit for all those juicy Bluray HD Linux ISO Discs! ;) ;)

For legal usage? Only really an issue if you have more than a couple of PCs. I myself only have 12Mbit and it's fine for 3 of us.

If you aren't bothered about legality see above!
