Is there any way to only show Jpegs in Windows 7 picture libraries?

Hi.

I shoot a lot of RAW pictures and like to keep them in separate folder to the JPEGS exported from them but still within the same overall folder.

What this means is that when I view the pictures library, the RAW file icon is visible (which is better than seeing an image preview) but I would only like to see JPEGS.

This is because my girlfriend uses the picture library too and uses it filtered by day.

Is there any way to stop the library displaying anything other than JPEGS?

Thanks very much.

Just search for *.jpg

Or sort by the file type and the Jpegs will all be grouped together

Once you are in the picture folders you can do a search of type:jpg

Unfortunately you can't save this search properly

You can create a second Library which points to the sub folder the JPEGS are stored in. Would that work?

Maybe I read wrong.

Your RAW files are in a subfolder but your JPEG's are in the main folder?
Put your JPEG's in a subfolder too and create a new Library pointing just to that.

Thanks but I need to keep things simple for my girlfriend. She uses the library in day sorted view.

Thanks but see above, I just want to see JPEGS only in the pictures library even if other file types are in the folder the library references.

Put your JPEG's in a subfolder too and create a new Library pointing just to that.

This seems a good way to investigate but just to explain my folder structure properly:

My Pictures\Xmas2009
My Pictures\Tae Kwon Do
etc.

Then in each particular occasion (eg Xmas 2009) I have a RAW folder, a JPEG folder and an edited JPEG folder.

When the picture library views the My Pictures folder as a whole, it displays the RAW files too. I only want to see JPEGS

Thanks a lot.

In my computer add a tab heading "type", clicking on this will sort files into "types"... i.e jpg all together, raw all together, etc. though I don't know how to switch off thumbnails for one type only as you are trying to do.

So you would have to create a library (Open Libraries and select New Library) and manually add each JPEG folder location as a location of the new library (Properties of the new library and 'Include a folder'):

My Pictures\Xmas2009\JPEG
My Pictures\Tae Kwon Do\JPEG

It's not going to be automatic as every time you create a new folder under your My Pictures and want them included, you will need to edit the Library properties. It might be a manual task worth doing?

Else edit your folder structure to be:

My Pictures\RAW\Xmas2009
My Pictures\RAW\Tae Kwon Do

My Pictures\JPEG\Xmas2009
My Pictures\JPEG\Tae Kwon Do

Then you can just add 'My Pictures\JPEG' as the library source and you wont need any manual intervention to pick up new folders created.

Thanks very much.

The more I learn, the more I think keeping the RAWs outside the my pics folder would be the easiest and best way.
