Windows 7 wont boot
Just happened recently, the log on screen shows, and it appears to boot as normal but the screen is black (desktop).
Ive eliminated a graphics card issue as the log in screen looks fine and thats high res, when i shutdown the pc it shows the log off screen in high res also. Programs appear to load as i can see the update messages for them, but everything else is black. Theres no start menu, icons, or wallpaper. ive tried a system restore but that hasnt worked. Anyone got any suggestions? |
Re: Windows 7 wont boot

If you're running 64bit and AVG as your antivirus then read this!

Its a tough one. First thing I would do is set the bios to fail safes and see. Next thing would be a different gfx card just to rule it out and possibly a screen Next it would have to be a reinstall Can you try a system restore further back? |

Re: Windows 7 wont boot
it will if the overclock has caused a hiccup . Unstable overclocks can do very weird things

Re: Windows 7 wont boot
Ok heres the latest.
I put in the windows 7 DVD and i tried to restore further but it wouldnt let me, all other attempts failed, ie; the repair function. in the end i just reinstalled windows 7 on the main drive that already has windows 7 installed, an it worked, however i now have a Windows.old folder which was my previous windows installation. i dont have AVG though, so i dont understand why this has happened. ---------- Post added at 20:07 ---------- Previous post was at 20:07 ---------- and yes windows 64 bit, see my sig |
Re: Windows 7 wont boot
Windows.old may have some of your old files in it for you to recover
|
Re: Windows 7 wont boot
it has all my old files in it, including the crap i had on my desktop, however i'm still confused over the whole problem in the first place, i assume if i run a shortcut from my windows.old folder to my new install i can access them, if thats the case then at least it saves a format.
*swiggs his southern comfort* anyway, hic i still havent got everything back to normal, my 1st major crash / problem with windows 7 since i got it in feb, so i guess its not all bad. ---------- Post added at 21:26 ---------- Previous post was at 20:42 ---------- Now I have no sound, GREAT!!!! |

Sounds like Explorer doesn`t launch. There was a similar issue involving prevx http://www.prevx.com/blog/141/Window...oot-Cause.html or do a search for Explorer black screen. Looks pretty common! |
Re: Windows 7 wont boot
wouldnt you still get a mouse pointer and access to task manager to start it manually?
