Netgear CG2100D

Hi guys,

Quick question(s) for you. :)

Do Virgin Media now push the Netgear CG2100D cable modem router for the new installs on 20Mb? One of our customers has this and I've never come across it before.

Netgear product page is here: http://www.netgear.com/products/serv...ys/CG2100.aspx

Naff-all support on it mind, no latest firmware for it.

Offhand, if anybody knows how to disable the SIP ALG on it that would be incredibly useful. :)

Kind regards,

TM

No the one we supply is a combined modem/hub called a vmdg280 which is built by Netgear for Virginmedia as per the link below.

Cheers guys. It was branded with Virgin Media firmware all over it, trademark stuff really. Next to unconfigurable, couldn't disable the SIP ALG in the web config and SIP over it completely fails to deliver the goods. Works as a cable modem, that's about it.

DOCSIS 2 n'all, so not even 50Mb users can take advantage of it.

That's why they now have the superhub for 50 & 100Mbhttps://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...010/12/119.jpg

It has embedded Virginmedia firmware onboard so any attempt to flash it would very likely kill it as it is primarily a modem a router second in this configuration.

so how locked down is the router part of it ie how configurable is it?

Re: Netgear CG2100D

It's mostly a standard Netgear interface, so it's as configurable as that

Configurable enough to turn off the DHCP and use it as a cheap standalone wireless access point? :P

That access is not available so not possible as the is not a lot you can alter in the interface, which is quite deliberate on the part of Virginmedia and Netgear, buy one and you will end up in all likelihood with a doorstop.;)

Are the superhubs any good, or are you still better off with a stand alone modem router combo.

just curious :)

Edit sorry the cold must have froze my brain cell :)

What I meant to ask was are you better off with separate equipment

Seems like you and BenMcr have differing opinions of just what the standard Netgear interface is.

Does anyone have screenshots of it? Failing that I may be replacing someone's next week so I could have a dig around myself then...

Nobody has them yet except trialists and testers, so you won't get many opinions from the general public.

I love the super hub. It works really well.

No issues at all.
