Getting Locked out from my web server
Bit technical this one...
I have been having trouble today accessing my VPS. I am transferring around 2000 small files to my PC with Filezilla. After a minute or so, Filezilla disconnects and can not reconnect to the IP address. Nor can I access any websites hosted on that IP, nor login with Putty or WinSCP. My host first suggested their firewalls might be blocking my IP from VM, but this is not the case after they checked. Would Virgin Media be blocking me - thinking I am performing some form of attack - like I said it is around 2000 small files. However Filezilla is set to a low 5 concurrent transfers. After about 90 minutes the block clears. This has happened twice this evening. Below is the Filezilla status: Code:
Response: 250 OK. Current directory is /admin/applications_addon/other/subscriptions/xml |
Re: Getting Locked out from my web server
There may be clues here:
http://forum.filezilla-project.org/v...php?f=2&t=7688 "If you get this error if listing a directory or if downloading a file, it means that your server did not send the SSL/TLS closure notification as required by the SSL/TLS specifications." Have you tried a different FTP client? |
Re: Getting Locked out from my web server
When it blocks you try doing a tracert to the website and see if it gets there or get stopped locally

Re: Getting Locked out from my web server
I've actually had similar ECONNABORTED messages as well, though I've never been patient enough to wait to see if it goes away.
In my case other communication to/from the host works fine (ping, RDP, etc.). At that point you can be pretty sure it's not a firewall blocking the IP since you're already connected and transferred several bits of data back and forth by the time you get the disconnect. Wouldn't be surprised if it was the DPI gear going flaky. |
Re: Getting Locked out from my web server
Thanks for your replies.
Just happened again, and to confirm, a ping times out. That definitely makes it a VM problem right rather than a problem on my VPS? |
Re: Getting Locked out from my web server
Depends on where the ping is stopped. A pathping will show where it happens. Does your host respond to pings normally?

Re: Getting Locked out from my web server
Hi robtuk06,
I had the same issue myself connecting to my own dedicated server. It turned out the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) in ESET Smart Security (NOD32) kept blocking my IP! Can you get your IP added as some type of Admin Rule that doesnt use the IDS? Hope thats of some help. Beanie |
