Xbox Connection to PC

Hi All,

Im pleading for some help here. Iv got my Xbox 360 (old silver non wireless model) conected to my BT router via Ethernet cable which gets my xbox live connection to work perfectly. Iv recently decided that i want to stream my music and vids from my PC to my Xbox but no matter what i do I cannot get the connection to work. Im using Windows XP with Windows Media 11. Iv followed instructions about sharing but i cannot see my xbox at all. Iv tried connecting my Xbox directly into my PC with the ethernet cable but I could not aquire the IP address. Iv tried bridging the connections but keep getting error messages.

Hope iv not waffled to much. If anyone knows what obvious simple thing im doing wrong id really really appreciate your help and thoughts

As far as I knew - you needed to setup a media centre extender. This functionality is built into Vista Home Premium and Windows 7 Premium.

You can't do it from Windows XP with Media Player 11 I don't think.

No need whatsoever to use it as a media centre extender, or to use Vista or Win7.

XP & WMP11 are perfectly able to share media to a 360. It's a separate thing to the media centre extender function.

Do you have a firewall at all?

OK, start fresh. Don't bother with a direct connection, or making a bridge. Just have it set up as normal, Xbox to router and PC to router.

Which instructions have you tried?

These are the latest ones I can find on Xbox.com since the redesign:

It should normally be a case of "it just works"... I have had issues with WMP sharing before, but normally where it isn't refreshing the library properly, not anything like you're having where it won't see it at all.

Windows Firewall shouldn't be an issue.

One thing you can try if you still cannot get it to work is PS3 Media Server:

I use it to stream to my 360 & PS3 (although it's aimed at the PS3, it does work with the 360 & does recognise if you have a 360 on the network instead of a PS3). It also handles more media containers & codecs than WMP (it'll transcode anything the PS3 won't natively play, I think it will do the same for the 360).

Another alternative is TVersity, but I don't really like that, personally:

WMP streaming & MCE streaming are two different things.

Thanks for that info, iv tried all this as well i really thought it should be a simple case of plug it all in and it should work but not matter what i cannot see my xbox when i go the to shared media in media player 11 or even in Zune it will not connect to the device. iv tried doing the tests on the oc and it cannot find a pc name, is there maybe some setting within the xnox itsself that i will need to adjust

Re: Xbox Connection to PC

No settings to change on the Xbox. You just need to have the PC & Xbox on the same network via the router. Nothing special.

Have you tried PS3 Media Server instead or TVersity?
