I haven't peeped at the linky - but my rule of thumb is if you haven't invited it and you're not sure about it then bin it.
I'll take me sceptical self off :)

I'd be quite surprised if many people find theyh can have a totally free installation. It's a great way of getting an enquiries database. It's much more likely that they'll come round and quote, tell you all about the "grants" that are available, and try to sell you the install so that one way or another they get a job that they are earning for.

A few thoughts (from an optimistic cynic).

a) If it's too good to be true, it usually is...
b) Head Office and Registered Office: 1 Olympic Way, Wembley, Middlesex, HA9 0NP - this is the pedestrian road that leads to Wembley Stadium
c) You are contracted for 25 years (which includes the next owner if you sell the house in that time) irrevocably
d) They are not on Google Maps at that address

And from an independent article in the Guardian
Quote:

Under the "free solar" model, a homeowner would save in the region of £2,750 on energy bills over 25 years, the length of the tariff offer. By paying for their own panels with a loan at 7.7% interest repaid over 10 years and earning income from the feed-in tariff, they could save around £6,506 over the same period.

I remember hearing about this on the radio - I think it was on the 'Today' program, as that's about the only thing I listen to on the radio - and it sounded 'kosher' at the time. Worth looking into IMHO.

[Edit] - but perhaps not, per the article in the Guardian quoted above.

There's several companies doing it now, not sure if they're all legit however.
There was a news item on the BBC website about it
