Traffic Management

Regarding the STM download limits from 3pm-4pm.

What happens to the count of amount downloaded after 4pm?

1) amount downloaded carried over from before 3pm
2) amount downloaded reset to zero again
3) something totally bizarre

Would really like to know so I don't cross over the threshold and get STM'd again :/

Dont forget you have also got this now in place.

http://shop.virginmedia.com/help/tra...nt-policy.html
----

File sharing

We moderate the total volume of file sharing traffic on our network between 5pm and midnight on weekdays and midday and midnight on weekends. This policy is restricted to Peer to Peer ("P2P") applications and Newsgroups (which are commonly used to distribute large amounts of data)

This policy does not impact any applications other than Peer to Peer and Newsgroups, so things like watching iPlayer, online gaming, making calls via Skype, downloading music tracks from iTunes or streaming them from Spotify and sending an email or normal browsing are unaffected.

It's important to remember that these traffic management policies only apply at peak times when speeds are most likely to be affected by people using more than their fair share. Outside of peak times we do not manage traffic.

Re: Traffic Management

Cynically my best guess would be option (1) vrigin trying to stop people automatically triggering the STM early in the afternoon

Thanks for the reply that one was bothering me for ages ... one of ~100 posts on the internet in 15yrs :/

Though im guessing this is not the case if you are already STM'd before 3pm e.g. 2pm

I am on 10Mbits, last week I dowloaded 90G during the day, without driggering any traffic management, do they take it on and off?

I question your "90G" claim. On a 10Mb pipe you can suck down a cool 4.3GB/h if all is ship-shape. 90GB/4.3GB=21 hours.

Last time I checked, there's not 21 hours "during the day". It is impossible to leech 21 hours flat-out without triggering STM.

STM may or may not be enabled during 10am-3pm. It isn't here. The evening traps are enabled everywhere :D

The traffic management when triggered lasts for 5 hrs, so if you trigger it at 2.59 it lasts until 7.59.

Personally I read it as he downloaded 90G during the daytime of that week, not all in one day. Now if he had said "during A day"..........;)
