CCTV shows police 'punching' stab victim

Merseyside Police said when officers tried to treat his wounds he became violent towards them.
The footage, which was captured on council cameras, shows him being pinned to the ground and punched in the face.
Supt Mike Shaw, from Merseyside Police's professional standards department, said he understood how people may be concerned when watching the footage.
However, he said CCTV images "never show the whole story."
In the video it looks like he could be punching the grass, and the woman officer looks like she's not happy with him and is pushing him away. and the other person in the video looks like he's not happy with either the grass puncher, or the person lying on the grass, (who has suddenly gone all quiet and still)

From my viewpoint it looks like punches to the upper arm/shoulder to get him to release the grip of his leg.

At 20 seconds in once the grip is released the punching stops.

The fact professional standards are sticking up for the cop speaks volumes. Normally if there any hint at all of improper conduct they'll just sit quietly in their office sharpening their best knives and choosing where in the back to stab them.

That was my first reaction as well ,it does seem as though the offender is doing some harm to the officer in an attempt to escape ,possibly biting

Officers? The video I'm watching shows one officer punching him not all of them. They then restrain him using as little force as possible.

i think the moral of this story is if you get stabbed hope its not the police that find you first .

What i see is a bloke who has sustained an injury trying to be helped by the police but making things very hard for them .These sort of threads usually end up full of conjecture and police bashing with absolutely no evidence or fact to corroborate them .We don't know if he was stabbed ,we don't know if he was the victim or an asailant that picked on the wrong man i.e the bloke in the grey jogging suit which would explain his eagerness to escape the clutches of the police in fact we know anything .
Just another police bashing thread as far as i am concerened

And if the Police had let the stab victim walk away and he died of his injuries you'd be screaming for heads to roll. :rolleyes:

Lets face it, as far as Police 'beatings' go its not exactly a Rodney King.

Ahh, the old video of cops where the video goes from him lying down quietly and then suddenly cuts to them all rolling about together.

I'm surprised it's not on YouTube instead of the BBC

The mans obviously off his tits on drugs, why shouldn`t the police protect themselves. If he needed help, why did it take 3 officers to restrain him?

There are three ways to restrain someone.

  1. Put them down hard using strikes to potentially dangerous areas or use tasers/guns
  2. Spend huge amounts of time and money training every single officer to exceptionally high standards in martial arts
  3. Use multiple officers to restrain the person using the minimal amount of force needed to subdue the subject without injuring them

So if the Police allowed him to walk away and he ended up dying of his injuries would you be happy with that?

At the end of the day he was kicking off, was restrained. The incident was captured on a camera, edited and put online. Was the restraint excessive? Not to me it wasn't but then again some people will always have a go at the Police regardless of the situation.

What happens if the injured tells the cops to bugger off and attacks them how much force are they allowed to use ..in your view
