Jailed for forging Tracy Emin 'art'

An ex-art student who worked alongside artist Tracey Emin has been jailed for 16 months for forging her work.

Doesn't it make you proud to be British?

I take it he was rumbled when his 'art' showed some degree of talent?

Art fraud is a serious offense. I don't see the surprise?

I suspect the thread title is a little misleading, as the purpose of the thread to me seems to be the disparity between the punishment for offences against the person, and the punishment where money/reward is involved.

It just seems to be the case that beating someone up is not as bad as cheating someone out of a few quid.

Yes and in an ideal World both offences would result in serious jail time but seeing as our little part of the World isn't ideal, I'd rather the perpetrators of violent crime did the time rather than art fraudsters and I bet most people agree with me.

not being an Ebay user ,is this normally the place to purchase valuable art works ?and wouldn't serious collectors be a tad suspicious especially ones willing to part with £1000's of pounds

As you said.

And what makes it even sadder for me is someone getting jailed for copying the works of another no-talent fraudster.

I reckon that anyone who aims to subject the world to even more of Ms Emin's dubious output than she can churn out deserves the severest of sentences.... I just wish they'd lock her up as well! :D
